STE. GENEVIEVE -- Baker Installations, a telecommunications outsourcing business headquartered in McMurray, Pa., has opened a district office here. It is the 14th district office in the company's nine-state operation.

This is the second cable installation business to open an office in Ste. Genevieve in the past two months.

In February, Orius Corp.'s Telecommunications Group, a construction operation whose primary function is installation of underground communication cable, announced it would operate out of the former U.S. Filter building at 1035 South Gabouri St.

Baker Installations is located in the former ABC building, which is part of the Trautman Industrial Complex off Highway 61.

Company officials said the expansion into Ste. Genevieve is necessary to service the needs of cable TV provider Charter Communications

Susan Grecco, Baker Installations administrative manager, said, "Ste. Genevieve was the logical solution for location due to workload proximity."

Mike Raney, Baker Installations district manager for the central region, said the company has received a positive reception from local subscribers and businesses, and is excited about "our relationship with Charter and its customers."

Baker Installations was established in 1976 to meet the growing demand for cable installation. The company handles broadband cable, telephone and cable modem installations, as well as network cabling solutions.

Marv Harman, Ste. Genevieve County economic developer, said, "The recent addition of Orius Corp., the underground communication installers, and now Baker Installations, gives us a greater presence in the communications field.

"The two operations represent the full scope of service from the underground cable to the home."
