Scholarship winner announced

Gail Heuschober has received a $1,000 Thomas G. Otto Scholarship.

Orthopaedic Associates of Southeast Missouri, P.C. presented the scholarship, which is awarded annually to an outstanding senior. Selection is based on grades, extra-curricular activities, and volunteer efforts.

Heuschober is a graduate of Notre Dame High School, and is attending Maryville University. She plans to major in the physical therapy program.

Dr. Rickey Lents of Orthopaedic Association presented the award to Heuschober.

Show Me Center names food, beverage manager

Michael Killian of Cape Girardeau has been named Food and Beverage Manager at the Show Me Center.

Killian's appointment was made by David Ross, director of the Show Me Center. Killian will be responsible for the overall management of the concession stands and will handle all food service requests for the Show Me Center.

Killian worked at Port Cape Girardeau restaurant nine years, where he served as a kitchen manager, overseeing a full-service dining room as well as specialized catering events for up to 2,000 people. Many of those catering events were at the Show Me Center.

"Killian's familiarity with the Show Me Center and his experience in the catering and restaurant business will be a great asset to the team," Ross said.

Shell joins Commerce Bank as vice president

David L. Shell has joined Commerce Bank in Cape Girardeau as a senior vice president.

Roger Tolliver, president of Commerce Bank, announced Shell's appointment last week.

Shell received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Arkansas State University and is a graduate of the Colorado School of Banking. He has a number of years experience in the banking business.

Shell is a member of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, Cape Area Homebuilders Association, and serves on the board of Habitat for Humanity.

Weber promoted; Gosche named director

Tina J. Weber of Jackson, Mo., has been promoted to assistant vice president at the Bank of Missouri, Jackson branch.

Weber has worked with the Bank of Missouri since it opened a branch in Jackson at 233 W. Jackson Blvd. She has more than 15 years of banking experience.

Weber is a member of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce and is president of the Jackson Park Board.

R. David Crader, CEO and Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Missouri, also announced that Bill Gosche has been named community bank director. Gosche is president of Wiethop Truck Sales, Inc., in Cape Girardeau.

Steele re-elected to Missouri Bar board

Richard Steele of Cape Girardeau has been re-elected to a two-year term on the Board of Governors of the Missouri Bar.

The board is the governing body for the organization.

The board includes five new members -- Mike Greenwell of Shelbina; Max Mitchell of Sedalia; Carol Chazen Friedman of St. Louis; Wallace S. Squibb of Springfield; and Daniel Peliken of St. Charles -- and 16 incumbents.

Newly elected and incumbents will be installed during the 2001 Missouri Bar Annual Meeting later this month in Springfield, Mo.

Thomas named new workforce board member

Scottie Thomas of Cape Girardeau has been named as a private sector member on the Workforce Investment Board of Southeast Missouri.

Thomas, who operates Pilot Convenience Store and Subway Restaurant in Charleston, Mo., was approved by the board as the new member from Mississippi County. Thomas replaced Rick Reed Jr., of Charleston, who completed a two-year term on the WIB.

Thomas is a graduate of Hayti High School, where he still holds season and career football rushing records (1,272 yards in one season, 3,264 career). He attended Southeast Missouri State University.

Sue Treadway of East Prairie is the other Mississippi County representative. Cape County representatives are Johnny Ray Conklin of Kelso, Mo., and J. J. Williamson of Cape Girardeau.

The WIB Board is made up of two representatives from each of 13 Southeast Missouri counties.

Travel agent returns from resorts tour

Beverly Blaney, travel & cruise consultant for Elite Travel Inc. in Cape Girardeau, recently returned from a four-night information tour of the Riveria Maya coast in Mexico.

The Riveria Maya is about one hour south of Cancun, and has the second largest reef system in the world. It has remnants of the Mayan civilization. Playa del Carmen, one of the larger area towns, offers local shops, as well as a variety of nightlife. Blaney toured fifteen different resorts.

Television winner in car promotion named

Milford Holt of Cape Girardeau was winner of a 19-inch color television during a sales promotion at Soskin Cape Toyota, 835 S. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau.

John Staab, Soskin service manager, announced promotion results last week.
