Mary Emmenderfer Smith has joined Ford & Sons Funeral Home and Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery & Mausoleum as a pre-need specialist.

Smith has several years experience in public relations and communications.

Smith, a native of Cape Girardeau, was previously director of Metro Business College for 18 years.

Scott Coleman has joined Pizza Inn, 3333 Gordonville Road, as manager.

Coleman of Jackson has more than 20 years experience in the restaurant business.

Michael Sterling has joined the Cape Girardeau office of American Family Life Assurance Co. (AFLAC) office at 325 S. Kingshighway as benefit coordinator.

Sterling has more than seven years experience in the insurance industry.

Sheila Birk, dental assistant at Dr. David Kaelin's Dentistry practice in Cape Girardeau, has passed the examination provided by the Dental Assisting National Board to attain certification as a dental assistant (CDA).

In order to maintain certification as a CDA, Birk must complete continuing education requirements annually.

Wade C. Adams of Cape Girardeau, executive director of MedAmerica HealthNet, has attained certified member status in the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE).

Adams is one of only three individuals in Southeast Missouri to achieve ACMPE status. Others are Sarah Holt, administrator of the Cape Girardeau Surgical Clinic, and Jerry Nicholson, administrator of Orthopaedic Associates of Southeast Missouri.

Adams had to pass the ACMPE's oral, essay and written examinations. To maintain certification, he must earn a minimum of 50 continuing education credit-hours every three years.

Adams became executive director of MedAmerica HealthNet, a regional physician-hospital organization (PHO) in April 1995. He is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington and St. Louis University, where he received a master's degree in health administration.

Bonnie Roberts has been promoted to vice president at Union Planters Bank in Cape Girardeau.

Roberts has more than 16 years of experience in the financial industry. Her primary duties with Union Planters include training and managing the customer service department, which services 13 sites throughout Southeast Missouri.

Union Planters is an affiliate of Union Planters Corp., a multi-bank holding company headquartered in Memphis, Tenn., with more than 400 offices in eight states.

Jane J. Job of Met Life Insurance in Cape Girardeau recently attended a two-day convention at the Lodge of Four Seasons, Lake of Ozarks.

Job qualified to attend the convention based on sales performance.

Steve Brown, Mike Burger and Harlin Oberndorfer of Baker Inplement Co. in Cape Girardeau recently attended the Case IH Denver Summit where more than 20 Case Corp. products were introduced.

Case, headquartered in Racine, Wis., introduced its new 8900 Series Magnum line, which includes five new tractors, and the 9390 Steiger Tractor line.

Baker Implement will offer the new Case IH equipment shown at the Denver Summit as it becomes available.

Bill Hodges and Cherie Hodges-Stembel of Albrecht/Hodges Insurance Agency Inc. of Cape Girardeau recently attended a daylong instructional meeting sponsored by The Barton Group.

Participants at the meeting received three credit-hours of continuing education from the Missouri Department of Insurance.

The Barton Group is comprised of three Missouri Mutual Companies, Barton County Mutual, Owensville Mutual and Cape Mutual Insurance Co.

Army Sgt. Douglas K. Walsh is the new Army recruiter for the U.S. Army Recruiting Station at 1307 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. His recruiting area also includes high schools at Perryville, Patton, Jackson and Oak Ridge.

Walsh, a native of California, took basic and advanced individual training at Fort Leonard Wood.

James N. Vanglider, president and founder of Havco Wood Products Inc. of Cape Girardeau, was among entrepreneurs and business leaders inducted into the University of Missouri-Rolla's Academy of Mechanical Engineers.

The new academy members were honored during a recent dinner and induction ceremony held on the campus.

The academy members serve as advisers to the mechanical and aerospace engineering and engineering mechanics department as well as ambassadors to promote alumni involvement with the department.

Vangilder was a 1968 graduate at UM-Rolla.

Eric R. Marquart of Cape Girardeau has qualified as a member of the 1996 Executive Council of New York Life Insurance Co.

Council membership is based on sales performance.

As an Executive Council member, Marquart attended a four-day educational conference at Tucson, Ariz.

Donna Domian, investment representative in Cape Girardeau for the financial-services firm, Edward Jones, appeared recently on a satellite seminar.

"Ethics" was the topic of Domian's appearance on the satellite broadcast, which was presented to Jones brokers across the country.

Domian was selected for the presentation because of her success as a Jones broker, and her expertise in the ethics area of the securities business.

Domian has been with Edward Jones for 15 years.
