Susanna Baylon of Cape Girardeau has joined Bay News 9, a Time Warner, 24-hour news television station in the Tampa Bay, Fla., area, as anchor/reporter.
Baylon, who started her broadcast career at WSIL-TV in Southern Illinois, has been at KFVS-TV in Cape Girardeau for more than eight years. While at KFVS-TV, she anchored, produced and reported for Heartland News. She also co-hosted the MDA Telethon.
Baylon, who played violin in the Southeast Missouri State University orchestra, served on the board of the university's music academy.
Rick Tolbert and Ruth Heisserer have joined Commerce Bank.
Tolbert of Jackson will serve as vice president of commercial and agriculture lending.
Tolbert, a graduate of Arkansas State University at Jonesboro with a bachelor's degree in agriculture, has more than 11 years experience in banking. He was at NationsBank (Boatmen's) for 11 1/2 years where he was a vice president and manager of the agriculture lending department.
He is a member of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, serving on its agriculture committee.
Heisserer, who will be commercial loan secretary at Commerce Bank, has more than 15 years of experience as a loan associate at NationsBank (Boatmen's).
She previously served as secretary to the superintendent at Scott city R-1 School District and as office manager of the Scott County University of Missouri Extension Center.
Mary Nistendirk, formerly of Cape Girardeau, has returned to the Cape Girardeau area.
She has joined Union Planters Bank of Southeast Missouri as assistant vice president and branch manager of the Jackson East facility.
Nistendirk, who has more than 21 years experience in the banking industry, is a graduate of Columbia College with bachelor's degree in business administration. She is also a graduate of the Missouri School of Lending and the AIB Compliance School.
She had been vice president, compliance officer and branch manager with the Ashland Branch of Union Planters Bank of Mid-Missouri, where she was active with the Ashland Chamber of Commerce. She was also a member of the Women's Network, a division of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, and an affiliate member of the Women's Council of Realtors.
John Edward Slattery of Cape Girardeau has received a Diamonds Certificate from Gemological Institute of America, headquartered in Carlsbad, Calif.
The diamonds course included studies of a range of information from the creation of diamonds to world diamond markets and techniques of selling.
The Gemological Institute of America is an educational and research organization serving the jewelry industry, with campuses and laboratories in New York and California.
Larry Underwood, a real estate professional with ERA Cape Realty, has attended "MegaMarketing," a daylong seminar on marketing and advertising.
Underwood was one of 20 real estate agents from a three-state area attending the workshop, held at the Executive Inn in Paducah, Ky. The seminar, presented by Hobbs/Herder Advertising, an advertising firm headquartered in Orange County, Calif., included topics on the emerging trend of personal marketing, high impact advertising, public relations and self-promotion.

Rich Humphrey has been appointed chairman of governmental affairs for the Missouri Propane Gas Association.
Humphrey of Century Propane Co. Inc. of Jackson has received his appointment during the annual MPGA Board meeting at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach.
MPBA, based in Jefferson City, is a trade association for its member propane gas retailers and their associates.
Roy White has been named store manager at Jackson Tire, 1901 E. Jackson Blvd., and Jason Glueck has been named service manager at the business.
Charlie Glueck, owner of the tire center, announced the two promotions.
White of Jackson has worked at Jackson Tire since 1984. He started in tire maintenance and later was a mechanic. During the past seven years, he served as service manager.
Jason Glueck, son of Charlie and Donna Glueck, has worked at the shop part-time for six years. He will receive an associate's degree in applied business management from Three Rivers College at Poplar Bluff in December.
While attending college, Glueck worked a year for Rabin Tire and a year for Plaza Tire at Poplar Bluff.
Stephen Watkins and Susan Watkins of Watkins & Sons Funeral Service in Dexter, have attended the Missouri Funeral Directors Convention at Tan-Tar-A Resort at Osage Beach.
Stephen Watkins was recognized for his work with the Missouri Funeral Directors Association Convention, Continuing Education, Seminar and Program Committee. He also directed the MFDA Choir at the convention.
Susan Watkins was recognized for her assistance in the opening ceremony of the convention and the singing of the national anthem.
