Dr. David S. Johnson, a Cape Girardeau pediatric dentist, has been named "Missouri Dentist of the Year" by the Missouri Dental Association.
Johnson received his award during the MDA's annual meeting, held at Tan-Tar-A at Lake of the Ozarks, in recognition for his outstanding service and civic and community involvements. He was also elected MDA trustee, representing the Southeast District.
He has served in the MDA House of Delegates, the Social Services Committee and the Division of Medical Services Quality Assessment and Improvement Committee.
Johnson and his associate, Dr. Jayne Scherrman, practice pediatric dentistry at 2845 Professional Court.
Sue Brooks-Pence has joined Hill Realty as sales associate.
Brooks-Pence of rural Advance, a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, has experience in marketing and public relations. She is a graduate of Independent Career Institute Real Estate School, St. Louis Community College.
She is a member of the Multiple Listing Service and Missouri Board of Realtors.
Chris Byrd, a neuroscience clinical nurse specialist at St. Francis Medical Center, has written an article titled "An Injury Prevention Program for Youthful Traffic Offenders," which will appear in the August issue of the Journal of Emergency Nursing.
She discusses the St. Francis Traffic Offender Program in the article. The local program started in 1990, with monthly programs for young traffic offenders. Participants in the program spend the day in the medical center, visiting patients who have been in motor vehicle accidents and talk with the staff who care for them.
Byrd has been a nurse at St. Francis since 1985 and has been a neuroscience clinical nurse specialist since 1992.
Charlene Linn, program representative for the regional arthritis center at St. Francis Medical Center, has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Missouri Arthritis Program and Advisory Board.
The award is presented annually to a person who provides outstanding service and support in the fight against arthritis.
Linn has worked with the program for 12 years and with the Eastern Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. She teaches arthritis aquatic classes and is also an instructor for these classes and other arthritis self-help courses.
Brett Witthoft is a recent graduate of the Master Trainer Course at the National K-9 School for Dog Trainers in Columbus, Ohio.
Training instruction included basic and advanced obedience, personal and family protection and K-9 and police work.
Witthoft lives in Cobden, Ill., and will open a dog training business serving Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois.
Sharon S. Denton has joined ERA Cape Realty, 1409-A N. Mount Auburn Road, as a sales associate.

Denton was raised in Bollinger County and is looking forward to assisting customers and clients in Bollinger and the surrounding counties with their real estate needs. She was previously a sales associate in northwest Montana. She is married to William Denton; they have four children.
Marsha Pope has joined COPI-RITE, Inc. Coming from an advertising sales background. Pope's areas of expertise include sales, marketing and advertising.
Pope is responsible for the Cape Girardeau, Scott City and Jackson marketing areas.
Pope has photocopier and facsimile equipment, office furniture, paper products and miscellaneous office supplies.
Sam Unnerstall has closed Unnerstall Drug Store and is working part-time at Broadway Prescription Shop at 710 Broadway.
All of Unnerstall's customer prescriptions have been transferred to Broadway Prescription Shop. Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Broadway Prescription provides a delivery service for customers within the city.
