Marvin Wormington of Marble Hill has been named general manager of the Banner-Press in Bollinger County and the Jackson USA Signal in Cape Girardeau County.

Wormington has been a sales representative with the Southeast Missourian the past nine years and has been the sales manager for the Jackson USA Signal the past five years.

In making the announcement of Wormington's promotion, Southeast Missourian publisher Wally Lage said Wormington will "get these newspapers focused entirely on the needs of the communities they serve."

"I know the folks around Marble Hill will be glad to see a local resident manage the newspaper, and Marvin has been much involved in the Jackson community for many years," Lage said.

Wormington said he will work to make the newspapers, which are owned by Rust Communications, more responsive to the needs of their readers.

"There will be more local news and the newspapers will be a great advertising vehicle for area merchants," said Wormington.

Wormington was born in Topeka, Kan. He worked for a Philco television and radio products distributor in Joplin from 1958 to 1963. He managed a furniture store in Joplin from 1963 to 1968. In 1972 he graduated with a degree in education from Baptist Bible College and Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield.

Following graduation, Wormington worked as an administrator in parochial and private schools until 1980 when he joined the Wal-Mart Corp. and managed stores in several states.

Wormington joined the Southeast Missourian in 1989.
