Matthew Edward Prince of Jackson has joined Varsity Barber Shop, 1125 Broadway, in Cape Girardeau.
Prince is a recent graduate of the Missouri School of Barbering in St. Louis.
Prince is a third-generation barber. His grandfather, Ed Prince, operated a barbershop for several years in Marston. Three of his uncles are graduates of the St. Louis barber school. Two of them -- Mack Prince of St. Louis and W.D. Prince of New Madrid -- currently operate barbershops. The third uncle, Wayne Prince, still cuts hair occasionally.
Tom Weber, certified athletic trainer and director of sports medicine for HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center, recently attended the Health South Sports Golf Program in Los Angeles.
The program was designed exclusively for golfers to improve their game and decrease injuries through proper exercise and conditioning.
Weber has worked eight years for HealthSouth in Cape Girardeau.
Richard Montgomery of Sikeston has been named "Entrepreneur of the Year" in the health care field.
Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards were presented recently during a special awards ceremony held at the Ritz-Carlton in the Clayton area of St. Louis.
The award covers categories ranging from technology to manufacturing and are a part of an international entrepreneur of the year program. The 11 winners from the St. Louis district are eligible to win international recognition in November during the Entrepreneur of the Year Institute's conference at Palm Springs, Calif.
Montgomery is owner and president of Americare Properties and chief executive officer of its sister management company, Americare Systems, which owns and operates 20 skilled nursing centers and 35 residential care (assisted living) facilities throughout Missouri, Kansas and Tennessee, including the Cape Girardeau Residential Care Center.
Seven additional projects are scheduled for completion or acquisition this year, bringing the company to 62 properties and more than 2,500 beds by year's end.
Americare Systems is ranked nationally by "Provider Magazine" as one of the top 30 assisted living companies. America's revenues are expected to top $47 million this fiscal year.
Montgomery, a graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., has been involved in long-term health care since 1975.
Carolyn Prinz has been appointed extension unit leader by the University of Illinois Extension for the five-county unit of Alexander, Pulaski, Union, Johnson, Massac counties.
Prinz, who has degrees and work experience in communications, most recently served three years as program coordinator with the Women's Center in Carbondale. She will work with extension staffs and educators to help with development and delivery of programs for adult and youths. She will be travel around the five counties, attending various events and meetings, and may be reached at extension offices at Vienna, Mounds, Anna or Metropolis.
Carolyn Frey of Directions Tourism Consulting at Morley recently attended a tour, co-sponsored by the Missouri Travel Council, to areas in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Fort Worth, Dallas, Little Rock and Memphis.
The purpose of the trip was to inform tour planners and meeting planners in the cities of the attractions in Missouri.
John D. Cooley and Joyce A. Griffin recently completed Level I training in the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in Kansas City.
EMDR is a therapy technique used in the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder, panic attacks, anxiety and other stress-related problems.
Cooley and Griffin are employed by Spirit of St. Louis Hospital and provide psychotherapy services at the Cape Girardeau Satellite Clinic, 1730 N. Kingshighway.
