SIKESTON, Mo. -- A former 60,000-square-foot grocery store on seven acres of property in Sikeston, known as the Market Place grocery store, has a new owner and the real estate transaction has been finalized, according to an email from Tom Kelsey, commercial broker with Lorimont Place Ltd., who handled the sale.
The large box facility at 1102 S. Main St. originally was built by Ken Storey and operated as a flagship full-service grocery store by Sikeston-based Food Giant. The store closed in 2006 and remained vacant.
In the email, Kelsey said he anticipates the new buyer, a national retailer, soon will make an announcement of its identity along with outlining a general timetable of a future opening.
No sales price was disclosed; the Lorimont website shows the asking price for the property was $1.8 million.
