Heartland Counseling Center, which specializes in marriage and couples counseling and individual counseling for adults, is now open at 2909 Independence St. in Cape Girardeau.

Tender Hearts Child Therapy Center and Heartland Counseling Center will be housed under the same roof, but daytime space will be devoted to adults, an email from the center said.

Shannon Anderson, MA, LPC, NCC, is the clinical director and owner of the counseling center, opening the center to market to adults, the email said.

Other counselors at the center are Shay Alderman, LMFT, Teri Kluesner, LCSW, and Amy Vinson, MA, LPC.

SoutheastHEALTH Convenient Care opens in Jackson

SoutheastHEALTH's Convenient Care in Jackson will begin serving patients today, according to a news release from Mark Bliss of SoutheastHEALTH.

The Convenient Care is at 2432 East Main Street and provides an alternative to emergency room visits to patients who do not require complete hospital facility services from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week, the release said.

The clinic is staffed by family nurse practitioners and services provided include pediatric care, physicals, sports medicine, x-ray and lab services, the release said.

"This is another opportunity to offer area residents high quality health care, at a low cost, close to home and is in keeping with continued expansion of our services throughout the region," said SoutheastHEALTH executive vice president Jim Limbaugh in the release.

Auction to benefit Old Town Cape effort

Isle Casino Cape Girardeau will host the 26th annual Charles L. Hutson Auction at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 7 in the event center. The auction is sponsored by Isle Casino Cape Girardeau and SoutheastHEALTH, and all proceeds will benefit Old Town Cape in its efforts in Cape Girardeau's downtown revitalization.

Reservations are $40 and include heavy hors d'oeuvres and an after party at Keller's with dessert. Limited tables of eight are available for $300. A cash bar will be available.

Stooges in Jackson under new management

Ron Cook took over ownership of Stooges in Jackson as of Saturday, according to an email form Ted Clark, the previous owner of the establishment.

Clark said he and his wife, Judy, still will work at Stooges, and he will be in charge of entertainment, while Cook adds a few items to the menu and takes care of the food.

"I am excited to be able to spend more energy on the entertainment side of Stooges, as well as having Ron back on the food side," Clark said in the email.

Bluff City Beer to distribute Boulevard

Bluff City Beer Company in Cape Girardeau has acquired the distribution rights of Boulevard Brewing Company, according to a news release sent Tuesday from Kathy Bess Holloway, the general manager of Bluff City.

Boulevard is Missouri's largest craft brewer and the 12th largest craft brewer in the country, the release said.

Bluff City will sell the brewery's core lineup of beers throughout Southeast Missouri in 20 counties, according to the release.

Boulevard joins Bluff City's craft beer collection that includes Big Sky Brewing Company, Mother's Brewing Company, Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company and Big Muddy Brewing Company.

"We are excited to celebrate Bluff City's 85th anniversary by offering Boulevard's portfolio of fine ales and lagers to our customers," William Bess, president of Bluff City, said in the release. "Boulevard produces beers we've admired for many years so having them in our portfolio is an honor."

Business course offered at Southeast

Operation JumpStart, a four-week course offered through the Douglas C. Greene Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Southeast Missouri State University, is a nationally recognized training model that will teach participants business planning and preparation skills such as product pricing, marketing and cash flow management with the goal of developing a feasibility plan to start or expand a business, according to a news release from Southeast. Course participants also will receive one-on-one business counseling with a professional business development consultant from the Small Business and Technology Development Center.

The program is offered at no charge to entrepreneurs in surrounding communities, and is made possible with funding from the CIE, the Delta Regional Authority, the United States Department of Agriculture, the Missouri Small Business Technology Development Center and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The course will be offered beginning Sept. 17 and will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday nights. Contact the CIE no later than Sept. 5 for class location details and an application. An application is required and seating is limited. Reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities will be made if requested at least two weeks in advance by contacting the CIE at 651-2929.
