Union Planters Corp. reported record earnings for the second quarter of 1998.
Net earnings for the quarter were $78.3 million, up from the $68.3 million during the same period in 1997. Fully diluted earnings per common share for the quarter were 90 cents, up 12.4 percent from the 80 cents a share during the same quarter a year ago.
Net earnings for the first half of the year were $152.9 million, or $1.76 per diluted common shares, up from $134.7 million, or $1.59 per share during the first six months of 1997.
Union Planers Corp. ended the quarter with assets of $18.6 billion, total loans of $12.5 billion and total deposits of $13.5 billion.
Union Planters, headquartered at Memphis, is a multi-state bank holding company with 711 banking facilities in 10 states, including Cape Girardeau.
