MasterCard International will build a new global technology and operations center in the St. Louis area.
The $90 million project will retain more than 1,000 jobs and eventually create 500 more, said Joseph L. Driskill, director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development.
Including part-time and contract workers, MasterCard employs about 1,400 people in four leased facilities in the Westport Plaza area of St. Louis. MasterCard has more employees in the St. Louis area than any other location, including the company's New York corporate headquarters.
The new operations center will serve as the technological nerve center for MasterCard International worldwide.
