Wal-Mart has selected a St. James, Mo., site for a new distribution center.
The new 1.2 million-square-foot facility will be off Interstate 44 at the St. James exit and will provide 600 new jobs to the area, 90 percent of them full-time.
The Department of Economic Development (DED) and the city of St. James worked closely with Wal-Mart to help bring the facility to Missouri.
The new center will distribute general merchandise goods to Wal-Mart stores throughout central Missouri and beyond. Construction is expected to begin in September.
"This new distribution center and the resulting new jobs will provide a real boost to the economy of the area," said Joseph L. Driskill, director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development.
