New Madrid and Thomas Hill power plants, operated by Associated Electric Cooperative Inc., were ranked among the 25 lowest-cost U.S. steam-powered electric plants for 1995.
The Thomas Hill facility, ranked 11th nationally with average expenses of $11.27 per net megawatt-hour generated. The New Madrid plant was 22nd, with average expenses of $12.50 net MWH.
Oklahoma Gas and Electric's 1138-MW Sooner station in Red Rock, Okla., was the low cost producer of the year at $9.73 per net MWh.
Associated Electric Cooperative, headquartered at Springfield, Mo., provides wholesale power to six regional and 43 local electric cooperative systems in Missouri and Southern Iowa. AECI serves more than 541,000 homes and businesses, representing 1.5 million customers.
