An organic farming workshop will be held at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau Dec. 12.
The workshop, sponsored by the University of Missouri Outreach and Extension, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Van Ayers, MU regional extension specialist in Stoddard County, will discuss how farms can be certified as organic. Other speakers during the day will discuss organic field crops, organically raised livestock, marketing of organic vegetables and raising herbs.
Debi Kelly, project manager of Missouri Alternatives Center on MU-Columbia campus, said that land had to be free of synthetic chemicals three years to be certified as organic.
