Schnucks Markets Inc., which operates a total of 71 full-service pharmacies in four states, has initiated a new certified pharmacy technician program.
To become certified for the program, Schnucks pharmacy technicians must pass a national test administered by the Professional Examination Service for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Inc.
The new program will allow pharmacy technicians to expand their duties in selected areas, said Jim Cordes, director of professional services for Schnucks. As a result, said Cordes, pharmacists will be able to devote more time to counseling patients about their medications.
Schnucks operates pharmacies in Illinois, Indiana, Kansas and Missouri, including Cape Girardeau.
