More Missouri residents have jobs this year.
More than 2.8 million people were employed in the state in May, according to the Missouri Department of Labor.
The statewide jobless rate remained at 3.1 percent in May.
Non-farm payroll employment jumped by 12,300 in May due in part to seasonal requirements. Construction employment was up by 2,800 while retail trade added 4,500 jobs, with restaurants making up for the largest share of that increase. Thanks to the amusement and recreation industries, service employment grew by 2,000 jobs.
Some of those gains were offset by a 3,800 job loss in private educational services and a 200 job decrease in state government. About 700 manufacturing jobs were lost in May.
