No names are being mentioned, but Marion in Southern Illinois is in the running for a 100-job, $30 million industry.
Marion officials are looking into the availability of land for the new company, which is also considering sites in other communities in other states.
Marion, about a dozen miles east of Carbondale along Illinois 13, is also looking into prospects for a new industrial park. City officials met two weeks ago to discuss a new industrial park, in the range of 200 to 300 acres.
The city has received some good news. The telemarketing firm of "All People Are Customers," which opened more than a year ago with 100 worker, is expanding its staff to about 240. And a new restaurant -- Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar -- is under construction at the Illinois Route 13 at Interstate 57, with an anticipated March opening and 80 new jobs.
