The Internal Revenue Service and the Missouri Department of Revenue will offer free electronic filing seminars in September and early October at sites throughout the state, including Cape Girardeau.

The local seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Mount Auburn Christian Church, 930 Mount Auburn Road.

Nationally, more than 29 million taxpayers filed their tax returns electronically in 1999, a 20 percent increase over 1998. It is projected that more than 30 million will file electronically in the year 2000.

In Missouri, more than 480,000 federal and 372 state tax returns were field electronically last year.
