The "Commitment to Excellence" award honoring the 1996 "Industry of the Year" will be presented at the Cape Girardeau Industrial Dinner, to be held Oct. 2, at the Show Me Center.
Another big event during the chamber's Industrial Appreciation Week, will be the Industrial Appreciation Golf Tournament, scheduled Monday, Sept. 30 at Bent Creek Golf Course in Jackson.
This marks the ninth year for the Industry of the Year award. Previous winners were:
1989: Lone Star Industries.
1990: Procter & Gamble Paper Products Co.

1992: Concord Publishing House/Southeast Missourian.
1993: Dana Corp., Spicer Axle Division.
1994: Florsheim Shoe Co.
1995: Spartech Corp.
Joe Malarkey, a stand-up comedian who describes himself as "Worst Motivational Speaker in America," will be guest speaker at the dinner.
