Earnings for the three months ending June 30, was $45.6 million, compared to $41.8 million during the same period in 1999. Per share earnings were 74 cents, up 14 percent from the 65 cents of a year ago.

For the first six months ended June 30, earnings per share grew to $1.40, an increase of 13 percent over the $1.24 of a year ago. Total earnings amounted to $86.9 million, compared to $80.5 million in 1999.
Commerce Bancshares is a registered bank-holding company operating at 330 sites in Illinois, Kansas and Missouri, including Cape Girardeau.
