The Cape Girardeau chapter of the National Association of Life Underwriters is sponsoring LUTC classes this fall.

Personal insurance, business insurance, and personal estate and retirement planning courses are among those being offered.

Participants may receive 15 hours of continuing education credit for each of the courses. Classes start the week of Oct. 26.

Magna-Tel Inc., a screen printing firm in Cape Girardeau, has been named a winner in the 1992 Business Promotion Award Competition sponsored by Screen Printing Association International.

The Award of Distinction was presented to Magna-Tel for its submission in the customer relations category. The winning entry was a follow-up to potential customers who have requested custom price quotations.

Any distributor requesting a price quote that is not a customer is considered for the mailing. After the potential customer receives the quote, they are then sent via first-class mail a package consisting of a catalog, large mailing envelope, credit application, a "thanks" card and a screen-printed magnet attached to the inside of the card.

Magna-Tel's entry will be featured in the organization's monthly newspaper as well as in a special report, "Case Studies in Business Promotion: 1992." Information about the entry will also be displayed at Screen Print '92 International, a 44th annual convention and exposition in Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 28-31.

First Financial Planners Inc. will present a seminar designed for senior citizens here Monday.

The seminar will be held at the Holiday Inn in two sessions, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

"We'll discuss various financial investment options," said Richard Cuba, who will conduct the seminar. "We'll explain the benefits and downsides of all options."

Cost of the seminar is $10 per couple, which includes lunch.

The Small Business Development Center will conduct counseling sessions in three areas this month.

The counselor, Gil Degenhardt, will be available Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce office. The counseling sessions (about one hour) are free.

He will conduct sessions at the Sikeston Chamber of Commerce Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and at the Southeast Missouri Regional Planning office in Perryville Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Norman Bartmess will be at the Malden Community Center in Malden Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon for counseling. Appointments may be made by contacting the respective offices.

The center represents a "Partnership for Economic Development" between Southeast Missouri State University, the U.S. Small Business Administration, local financial institutions, area utility companies and Southeast Missouri municipalities. The goal of the center is to stimulate diversity and growth in small-business by assisting new and existing businesses to become more productive and more profitable.

Six members of the Cape Girardeau County Legal Secretaries Association recently attended the Missouri Association of Legal Secretaries Fall Board Meeting in St. Louis.

Attending were Sharon Faulkner, president of the local group; Mary Tripp, treasurer; Cheryl Amos, governor; Jackie Givens, national representative; Julie Wengert and Christy Marshall.

The group attended a seminar on franchising.

The local chapter's September dinner meeting was held at Shoney's in Cape Girardeau, with Judy Wengert, secretary for Finch, Bradshaw, Strom and Steel, serving as hostess. Attorney James Cochrane was speaker, discussing workers' compensation.

Amy Malaska, graduate student at Southeast Missouri State University, was a recent winner of a gift certificate during the Pasta House Company's "Back to School" promotion.

Malaska received a gift certificate to the JCPenney store at West Park Mall. The Pasta House is in West Park Mall.

More than 20,000 realtors and guests are expected to attend the National Association of Realtors' 85th annual convention and trade exposition Nov. 12-17 in Honolulu.

Topics include buyer brokerage, real estate tax changes, commercial real estate market and environmental issues.

More than 300 booths will be displayed at the trade exposition.

Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. has rearranged some of its top management in the wake of the defection by one of its executives to its closest competitor, Miller Brewing Co.

The company said the moves were made to strengthen both domestic and international capabilities.

Stephen J. Burrows, vice president of brand management for the brewery, was promoted to executive vice president of marketing for Anheuser-Busch International.

Burrows replaces Jack MacDonough, who was hired Monday by Miller as president and chief operating officer. Burrows will be responsible for the worldwide coordination of all Anheuser-Busch beer advertising and marketing outside of the United States, the company said.

Burrows, 40, also was named to the newly-created position of vice president of international marketing for the parent company, Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc.

In other moves, Thomas R. Sharbaugh, 48, replaces Burrows as vice president of the brewery's beer brand management, and August A. Busch IV, 28, replaces Sharbaugh as vice president of Budweiser brands. Busch, the son of company president August A. Busch III, had been senior brand manager for Bud Dry Draft

A new minivan has arrived in Cape Girardeau.

The Mercury Villager, the first minivan ever for Lincoln-Mercury, is now at Ford Groves Motor Co., 1501 N. Kingshighway.

The Villager offers anti-lock brakes as standard equipment, has seating for seven passengers, and is available in two models, GS and LS.

The vehicle is powered by a 3.0 liter, V-6 engine with electronic fuel injection.

Nancy Friedman, "The Telephone Doctor," will be guest speaker for two-hour seminars to be conducted at Cape Girardeau and Carbondale on how companies can improve their telephone skills to increase profits.

The Cape Girardeau session will be held at the Holiday Inn Oct. 28 and the Carbondale seminar will be held Oct. 29 at the Knights Court. Both sessions will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
