Earthquake Preparedness seminars will be presented for business owners and managers at two sites in Southeast Missouri.

The course, which will cover earthquake background, the New Madrid Fault, preparedness for businesses, mitigating damages and injuries, legislation and education, will be held at the Missouri Extension Office in New Madrid June 29, and at the University Center at Southeast Missouri State University July 13.

POPLAR BLUFF The Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce reached a new milestone recently its 600th member.

Hickory Hogg's BBQ, a new restaurant, became the 30th new member of the chamber this year.

"We went into this year with a goal of 600," said Don Crandall, president of the chamber. "We are going to work hard to stay at this level."

The chamber had a membership of 570 in early January.

Procter & Gamble Paper Products Co. recently presented the Oak Ridge School Parent Teacher Organization with a check for $600 in support of the PTO's outdoor classroom project.

Anita Hahs, Procter & Gamble representative, presented the check to Linda Seabaugh, PTO president and JoAnn Hahs, outdoor classroom projects representative.

P&G has also adopted the Oak Ridge High School through the Adopt-A-School program at the plant north of Cape Girardeau.

ST. LOUIS - Anheuser-Busch has completed a deal to buy a 17.7 percent interest in Mexico's largest brewing company.

Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc., the world's largest brewer, paid $477 million for an equity stake in Grupo Modelo of Mexico City. Modelo makes Corona beer and Anheuser-Busch makes Budweiser, the world's top-selling beer.

Under the agreement announced in March, Anheuser-Busch gets three seats on Modelo's board and Modelo gets a seat on the Anheuser-Busch board.

Anheuser-Busch also has the option of boosting its stake in Modelo to 35 percent between 1995 and 1997.

Jennifer Lyn Halter, a 1993 graduate of Kelly High School in Benton, will receive a $1,000 scholarship from Shelter Insurance Foundation. The award is sponsored and partially funded by local Shelter Insurance agent Joe Stuckey.

The scholarship may be used toward tuition, fees, room and board to the school of Halter's choice.

Amana Refrigeration Inc., recently received an ISO 9001 rating, the most comprehensive level of an international standard of quality. Amana is the first company in the heating, air-conditioning and appliance industries to be registered ISO 9001.

Peters Heating and Air Conditioning Inc., of Cape Girardeau is the local dealer for Amana products. The Peters firm, a family business, is in its 25th year of operation.

The firm is operated by Herman and Cordelia Peters and their children, John Peters, Gary Peters, and Christy Peters.
