Chocolate-covered cheesecake on a stick will be available at My Daddy's Cheesecake, 111 N. Main, on Riverfest weekend.

"We don't have a name for the new product," said Thomas Harte, head chef of the downtown business. "I guess we'll just call it `chocolate-covered cheesecake on a stick.' That's what it is."

The bakery has been testing the new product and will be ready to debut it Friday.

"It's a great treat for a hot Riverfest afternoon," said Harte. "Consumers can have their choice of cheesecake flavors, which will be covered by a creamy chocolate."

Mark and Steve Parsons are adding a new service for Cape Girardeau employers employment screening.

The Parsons, native Cape Girardeans, founded Certified Tenant Service Inc., 101 N. Kingshighway, Suite F, in 1989.

"Our primary business is tenant screening," said Steve Parsons, an owner of the firm. "We run apartment tenant checks (credit, rental history, employment, etc.) throughout the nation. We recently decided to add the new service."

The service will provide checks on employment history, education, workmen's compensation, and other information for employers.

Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Craig Felzien, community relations manager for Southwestern Bell Telephone, has received the NOVA Achievement Award an internal honor for telephone company employees who make extraordinary contributions to the business.

Felzien was nominated in recognition of the significant impact he has made in Southeast Missouri, said Southwestern Bell District Manager Lew Scott. "During the past year, Felzien's performance has contributed immensely to the achievement of our corporate objectives."

Among his accomplishments were designing and preparing a $100,000 grant request for Southeast Missouri State University's science educat on program; chairing the YELL project; serving as Cape Girardeau Area United Way chairman for two consecutive years; and preparing a $7,500 matching grant program for Mineral Area College's electronic library.

Associated Building Center Inc., Airport Road, recently received an outstanding achievement award from Merillat Industries headquartered at Adrian, Mich.

Merillat, a manufacturer of cabinetry for the home, recognized Associated Building for its sales accomplishments.

Dr. Michael Wulfers of Cape Girardeau is serving as a host for a preceptor program for students from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Wulfers is one of 105 Missouri physicians who have volunteered to help educate future osteopathic physicians through the preceptor program, which allows students to experience office practice with rural primary care physicians.

ST. LOUIS - May Department Stores Co. has announced a shift in its upper echelon in what it said was an effort to ensure continuity of leadership over time.

Jerome T. Loeb is to become its president on June 14, replacing Thomas A. Hays, president since 1985, who will take the newly created title of deputy chairman, the nation's largest department store retailer said this week.

Loeb is vice chairman and chief financial officer of the St. Louis-based company.

Hays, 60, has been with May for more than 24 years. Loeb, 52, has been with May for nearly 30 years.

May, with yearly sales of more than $10 billion, owns 306 department stores and nearly 3,600 Payless ShoeSource stores.

Among the department store chains owned by May are Famous-Barr in St. Louis.

CARBONDALE, Ill. - A new business here offers customers a chance to buy 100 rounds of ammunition for $6.50 and shoot each other - with paint.

C'est La Guerre opened after causing a stir when the city council had to change its weapons policy to accommodate the paintball guns.

Patrons can pay $22 for a two-hour session, not including paint balls. Combat takes place in a 90-by-95-foot building that used to be a bar. No alcohol is sold in the building.
