The Small Business Development Center will conduct counseling sessions in three areas this month.
The counselor, Gil Degenhardt, will be available May 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce office. The counseling sessions (about one hour) are free. Call 335-3312 for an appointment.
He will conduct sessions at the Sikeston Chamber of Commerce May 25 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Appointments are available by calling 471-2498.
He will hold sessions at the Southeast Missouri Regional Planning office in Perryville May 27 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Appointments are available by calling 547-8357.
The Small Business Development Center represents a "Partnership for Economic Development" between Southeast Missouri State University, the U.S. Small Business Administration, local financial institutions, area utility companies and Southeast Missouri municipalities. The goal of the center is to stimulate diversity and growth in small business by assisting new and existing businesses in becoming more productive and profitable.

Cape LaCroix Nursing Home dedicated its new chapel Friday.
"We've never had a chapel," said Joe Hancock, administrator. "We utilized a space to establish a chapel, which can provide service for 50 to 60 people."

WAPPAPELLO Kenny and Barbara Hart, formerly of Poplar Bluff, have purchased the State Park Marina on Lake Wappapello.
A restaurant has been added to the facility, and the marina has been completely remodeled. A campground with showers and laundry facilities also has been added.
The Harts purchased the marina from Richard and Rachael Slyker of Piedmont. The Slykers had owned the facility for 12 years.

The local Subway Restaurant's "Food for Food" promotion has been described a major success by Subway operator Paul Kesterson.
"We collected more than 1,000 cans of food," said Kesterson. The co-sponsor here was KBSI-TV.
Nationally, more than 6,800 Subway restaurants collected more than 2.5 million cans of food. The food items were distributed to local food banks or homeless shelters.
Subway customers who participated in the program received a free 6-inch sub sandwich in exchange for the donation of canned-food items during a 90-minute promotion. Subway restaurants here are at 1315 Broadway and 246 Silver Springs Road.

"Waste Oil Collection Day" will be conducted in Cape Girardeau May 22.
"Disposal of used oil and batteries is a growing problem for farmers and do-it-yourselfers," said Tractor Supply Company (TSC) district manager Larry Means. "On May 22, area residents can dispose of used motor oil, hydraulic oil and transmission fluid, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m."
Tank trucks will be on hand at the TSC store at 612 S. Kingshighway to collect the used oil, which can be recycled.

The Nitro Funny Car Division of the National Hot Rod Association will have a Cape Girardeau connection for 1993.
Bill and Brenda Bowen, owners of Rug Doctor dealerships in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois, have announced partial sponsorship of driver Jim Epler and his Dodge Daytona "Rug Doctor Funny Car" this racing season.
Epler, rated fifth in the NHRA national standings, will drive the car in the Goody's Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park Tuesday through Friday. The Bowens recently attended a Rug Doctor Dealers meeting at Memphis, where they met Epler.

SIKESTON Ken Mosley, the Small Business Association's Small-Business Person of the Year, will be guest speaker during a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise seminar to be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Coach House Inn in Sikeston.
"Bidding and Estimating" and "Building a Relationship with General Contractors" are topics to be discussed by Mosley, who founded his contracting business in 1979 with three employees. He now has 12 full-time employees and as many as 59 during the peak season.
The seminar will be sponsored by the Missouri Small Business Development Center in Cape Girardeau, the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department and Associated General Contractors.

Sharon Faulkner and Patricia Schreiner, both of Jackson; Glendella May of Scott City; and Jackie Givens, Mary Tripp and Christy Marshall, all of Cape Girardeau, attended the three-day annual meeting of the Missouri Association of Legal Secretaries in Jefferson City recently.
May and Givens received certificates for serving as co-chairpersons of the state "Chapter Achievement Contest" and Tripp and Cheryl Amos received certificates as co-chairpersons for the "Law Day Committee."

Goody's Family Clothing store opened April 30 in University Place at Carbondale, Ill. The store provides employment for about 35 people.
