Seifert's in West Park Mall is one of 106 stores in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based chain that will continue operations following a "downsizing" of the chain.

A newly-formed investor group, headed by Don Schumacher, a Chicago-based investor, has finalized an arrangement with prior owners to acquire shares of Seifert's.

A deposit has been made on the purchase price, a financing commitment obtained from the lender and the transactions are set to close on Wednesday.

M.A. Blumes will continue as an equity participant and as president and chief executive officer of the enterprise.

"Only the best of our stores (106 of 162) will be acquired by the new entity," said Blumes. "It is these stores which will operate into the future."
