Weatherline calls were up in 1992.
"We ended up 2.54 percent ahead of 1991 totals," said Martha L. Murphy, vice president of sales and client services for Weatherline Inc. "The Southeast Missouri Weatherline logged 392,856 calls in 1992, for a monthly average of 33,675.
"The Missourian has an incredible Weatherline system," said Murphy. "Since the program started in 1989, the system has logged 1,288,877 calls. That's phenomenal."
Calls averaged 17,500 a month in 1989, but jumped past 33,000 a month the next year. They averaged more than 33,600 a month in 1992.
Anyone wanting the temperature and forecast may call Weatherline at 334-8222. The local program is sponsored by the Southeast Missourian in cooperation with KZIM radio.

Chris Wrigley will discuss recommendations and features of the Workers' Compensation Labor-Employers Advisory Committee during a special workers' compensation briefing to be held Feb. 12 at Drury Lodge.
Cost of the session, which runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., is $15. It includes lunch.
Wrigley, vice president of Associated Industries of Missouri, and Duke McVey, president of Missouri AFL-CIO, co-chaired the advisory committee, which was created in 1992 to propose workable solutions to the crisis in Missouri's workers' compensation system.
Recommendations of the committee are focused on three major areas:
Improving safety programs to reduce injuries and claims.
Reducing the costs of workers' compensation for employers.
Improving efficiency of the state's system of expediting claims by injured workers.

Scott Fetterhoff of the Lichteneger, Payne and Weiss law firm in Jackson was speaker at the January meeting of the Cape Girardeau County Legal Secretaries Association meeting at Shoney's.
Fetterhoff discussed how a secretary can help a new lawyer beginning a practice.
The chapter's next meeting will be Feb. 11, at Shoney's, with a dinner at 5:30 p.m.

Capital Bancorporation's net income for the three months and 12 months ending Dec. 31 is up over 1991 figures.
The three months net income total was $1,578,000, an increase of 21 percent over fourth-quarter totals of a year ago. Net income for 1992 was $5,353,000, a 7 percent increase over 1991 net income.
Earnings per common share for the three months and 12 months ending Dec. 31 were 48 cents and $1.80, respectively.
Total assets exceeded $775 million, reflecting completion of the acquisition of Magna Bank of Southern Missouri on Dec. 30, which had assets of $172 million.
Capital Bancorporation's return on average assets was 1.05 percent for the fourth quarter and 0.90 percent for the year.
On Jan. 15, Capital Bancorporation declared a quarterly cash dividend of 16 cents per share on its common stock, payable on Feb. 4 to shareholders of record Jan. 28, 1993.
Capital Bancorporation is a multibank holding company headquartered in Cape Girardeau. The company operates 26 banking facilities through six affiliate banks in Missouri.

Strategies for small businesses and the American Disabilities Act will be the topic of a special satellite seminar to be held at Edward D. Jones and Co. investment offices in Cape Girardeau Feb. 10.
"ADA is confusing to many small business owners," said Robert N. Etherton, a Cape Girardeau representative for the St. Louis-based financial services firm. "It's vital for them to have a clear understanding of what the law entails. In essence, this program will convey the ABCs of the ADA."
Etherton's office, 215 N. Sprigg, will host the live satellite broadcast from noon to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Joe and Donna Domian will host the meeting during the noon session only at 1749-I Independence.
A panel will discuss the ADA and the audience will have an opportunity to address questions to the panelists.

ST. LOUIS Drury Inns Inc., a Missouri-based corporation with more than 60 hotels in 11 states, has appointed two new general managers.
Jamie Corwin, who has been with Drury Inns since 1989, has been appointed general manager of the new 118-room Drury Inn at Springfield, Ill. and the nearby 52-room Pear Tree Inn. Corwin currently manages the Drury Inn-Dallas (Texas) North.
Darryl Fenner has been appointed manager of the new Drury Inn in St. Louis, which is across the highway from Lambert International Airport at Natural Bridge. The 173-room facility is scheduled to open in May. Fenner currently manages the Drury Inn Hotel at St. Louis.

CHARLESTON Morton Buildings Inc. of Charleston has been named a winner in the National Frame Builders Association's Building of the Year contest held at the National Frame Building Expo in Lexington, Ky.
Association member Loren Biggers of Morton Buildings was declared the winner with his entry in the horse-barns-under-3,000-square-feet category. The winning entry was a horse barn built for Donald and Deborah Gerhardt in Columbia.
The association is a trade association representing the post-frame construction industry.
