State NFIB hosts event with Talent, Emerson
The Missouri chapter of the National Federation of Independent Businesses will host "Taste of NFIB," with honorary guests U.S. Sen. Jim Talent and U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson.
The event will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the Harrison School of Business in Dempster Hall, 814 Henderson St., at the corner of Henderson and New Madrid.
Talent and Emerson will tell local small-business owners how they can improve the small-business climate in Missouri.

The National Federation of Independent Business is the nation's largest small-business advocacy group.
UPN The Beat now on area cable systems
UPN The Beat, or WQWQ-TV, has been added to the SEMO Communications cable systems line up on Channel 14. The announcement was made by the station's vice president and general manager Mike Smythe.
The SEMO Cable communities that now receive UPN The Beat include Pocahontas, Fruitland, Delta, Morley, Haywood City, Vanduser, Blodgett, Matthews, Canalou, Colony, Anniston, Wyatt and Wilson City. "The Beat" can also been seen on the SEMO Cable line-up in rural areas of southern Scott County, northern New Madrid County, and northern Mississippi County. Officials from SEMO Communications report that customers in Bell City should begin to receive the station near the end of the year.
UPN The Beat is the local UPN network affiliate owned and operated by KFVS12 in Cape Girardeau.
The UPN Network is owned and operated by Viacom, which also operates CBS. Fall UPN programs include "Star Trek: Enterprise" and "WWE Smackdown."
