Area contractors win awards on road projects
Two contractors in Southeast Missouri have earned awards from the Missouri Department of Transportation for their work on state highway improvement projects. MoDOT chief engineer Kevin Keith recently presented the awards to specialty, light, medium and heavy volume contractors statewide who performed work for the agency in 2003.

Dumey Contracting Inc. in Benton, Mo., earned an award for excellent performance in the light volume/contract administration category. In addition, Penzel Construction Co. Inc. of Jackson received an award for excellent performance in the medium volume/quality category.
Each year MoDOT officials complete performance questionnaires to evaluate contractors. The questionnaires cover everything from following contract rules to passing field tests to staying on schedule. Results from these questionnaires determine winners.
