__SCOTT CITY RESTAURANT HOLDS GRAND OPENING__
Wild Hogs Smoke House, a new barbecue restaurant and meat shop, held a grand opening May 10. The restaurant at 116 E. Hickory St. in Scott City is owned by Tony Bure and Paul Schock, who also owns the adjacent Schock's Pub. Wild Hogs specializes in smoked foods, Bure said, including pulled pork, ribs, brisket and wings, with smoked specialty sides and smoked desserts, such as pies.
__CAPE RANKS HIGH FOR CHEAP HOME INSURANCE__
Valuepenguin.com, which collects and researches data on insurance companies, recently included Cape Girardeau on its list of "Best Cities for Home Insurance in Missouri." In an email, a site spokesperson said average premiums in Cape Girardeau are 11 percent below state average and the fourth-lowest in the state, according to a recently conducted study. Homeowners insurance in Cape Girardeau averages $1,937 a year, the study found. Other Missouri cities on the site's list with below-average rates were Elsberry, Springfield, Ellisville and Hannibal.
__DEVICE REPAIR SHOP OPENING IN CAPE__
Modern Technology, a shop offering repair and diagnostics of computers, mobile phones and tablets, is opening a new site at 1936 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. There also is a Jackson location at 425 W. Main St. The new shop held a ribbon-cutting May 1, according to a newsletter from the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce.
__HORIZONS ENRICHMENT AWARDED FOR EXCELLENCE__
Horizons Enrichment Center at Southeast Missouri State University received the 2015 Award of Excellence from the Missouri Adult Day Services Association, according to a news release from Southeast. This agency represents more than 120 adult day centers in Missouri. Horizons has been a member of the MoADSA since 2009. Each year, the association presents the award to one adult day program for outstanding and innovative support and delivery of adult day services. Horizons is a day program for adults with developmental and mental disabilities that is sponsored by the College of Health and Human Services through the Department of Human Environmental Studies.
__DELMONICO'S CELEBRATES 30 YEARS__
The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting May 6 for Delmonico's, 2951 Old Orchard Road, which is celebrating 30 years in business.
__MALDEN DEALERSHIP EARNS EXCELLENCE AWARD__
MALDEN, Mo. -- The Harry Blackwell Chevrolet dealership in Malden received the Mark of Excellence Award from Chevrolet, the Delta News Citizen reported. The award is given annually by Chevrolet to its most outstanding dealerships. Chris Belcher, general manager of the dealership, said the award is given to only 5 percent of Chevrolet dealerships nationwide. Harry Blackwell was one of three Missouri dealerships to receive it this year.
__COIN-OP CANTINA OPENS IN CAPE__
Coin-Op Cantina, an arcade bar at 46 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau, held a grand opening May 15 and 16. The business is nonsmoking and offers a full-service bar, including craft beers, along with classic arcade gaming. Latt Browne, Jason Mungle and Jeff Mungle own the business.
__EPS SELLS BBL CONSTRUCTION DIVISION__
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Energy Panel Structures sold its BBL Construction division to Richard Schemel and Tim Tarrillion of Schemel-Tarrillion Inc. in Perryville and previous BBL general manager Dale Schemel, also of Perryville, the Republic-Monitor reported. The new BBL Construction Inc. will be headed by Schemel and will become an independent dealer for EPS. EPS will maintain the manufacturing facility and employees at that location. Plans are to continue to develop the dealer network of more than 350 independent builders nationwide.
__JACKSON CHAMBER HOLDS RIBBON CUTTINGS__
The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting May 22 for Maurices, a new clothing store inside West Park Mall in Cape Girardeau. The chamber also held a ribbon cutting on May 22 for the Teen Challenge Super Thrift Store at 1969 E. Jackson Blvd. and on May 13 for BG's Old Tyme Deli, 252 E. Jackson Blvd.
__MAHANEY OPENS NEW INSURANCE OFFICE__
DESLOGE, Mo. -- The Desloge Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting May 15 for Hanna Mahaney's new American Family Insurance office at 1136 N. Desloge Drive.
__MRV BANKS, VAST BROADBAND COMING TO SIKESTON__
SIKESTON, Mo. -- A groundbreaking was held May 21 for a new 15,000-square-foot building at 912 S. Main St. in Sikeston, the Standard Democrat reported. The $3 million development will house MRV Bank and offices for VAST Broadband. The project is slated for completion in October or November, says Jim Gleason, president and CEO of VAST Broadband. The building will go up on the front of the lot where Fabick CAT was until it closed its Sikeston branch in 2004.
__TRANSPORTATION SERVICE TO ADD 15 STOPS__
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Southeast Missouri Transportation Service plans to add 15 more stops and another bus to the Bluff Area Transit Route in the coming months, the Daily American Republic reported. SMTS handles all public transportation for Butler County, the only county in its service area with a fixed route service. The current route consists of 22 stops; SMTS executive director Denny Ward says they plan to increase to 37 stops and also add bus shelters and kiosks, and adjust the route to encompass Three Rivers College and additional medical, shopping and assisted living housing areas.
__MARSHALLS OPENS IN POPLAR BLUFF__
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A grand opening was held May 21 for the new Marshalls store at 737 N. Westwood Blvd., the Daily American Republic reported. The store in Valley Plaza Shopping Center has 21,000 square feet and will add approximately 60 full- and part-time jobs to the area.
__CONSIGNMENT STORE OPENS IN DOWNTOWN CAPE__
Just Kidding Consignment Store opened June 1 at 101 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau. The children's clothing store, owned by Erica and Brian Anderson of Cape Girardeau, will accept toys, baby gear, maternity clothes, juniors' clothes, jewelry, handbags and formal wear, including bridal gowns, in addition to children's clothes. The store occupies the space that formerly was The Wiggery.
__FIRST STATE COMMUNITY BANK RECOGNIZED__
Farmington, Missouri-based First State Community Bank was named a 2014 Top 15th Percentile of Community Banks by Seifried & Brew, a community-bank risk-management firm. The ranking required the bank to "demonstrate exemplary performance of balancing risk and reward based on the bank's S&B Total Risk/Return Composite Ranking," according to a news release from the bank.
__ORAN SALON CELEBRATES 50 YEARS__
ORAN, Mo. -- Rosalia's House of Glamour, 113 N. West St. in Oran, held an open house May 31 to celebrate 50 years in business. Rosalia Friga, who opened the salon in 1965, offers hairdressing, massage and other cosmetology services for men and women.
