Infants, an outdoorsy info-mercial and a recruitment brochure were the big winners at the seventh annual ADDY awards Feb. 13. The three "Best in Show" awards for advertising in print, electronic and mixed mediums went to Southeast Missouri Hospital, Red Letter Communications and the Perryville-based Wright Group.

The event was hosted by the Tri-State Advertising and Marketing Professionals and was held at the University Center Ballroom. About 135 people attended.

"The three 'Best in Show' entries are considered the best of the best," said club president Keith Whitworth. Whitworth said that the club halted its "People's Choice Award" because it was basically a popularity contest, and that they added two more Best In Shows to better represent excellence.

Southeast Hospital won Best in Show for mixed media for its "Experience Southeast OB" campaign. That package included a video promotion that is sent to expectant mothers, a 24-piece information packet put in doctors' offices and sending babies' footprints to mothers a few weeks after delivery.

Cape Girardeau-based Red Letter Communications won Best In Show for its electronic presentation, "Stihl TV," a 30-minute info-mercial for Stihl power tools. One of the video directors, Andrew Chronister, said it is unlike other info-mercials in that it feels more like an outdoor program.

The Wright Group of Perryville won Best In Show for its print package, a recruitment brochure for the American Society of Concrete Contractors.

Whitworth said there were 168 entries and more than 60 awards were given out. The entries were judged by industry professionals at Arkansas State University, including professors in the marketing department, printers in the area and media consultants. Some of the awards will be sent on to national judging.
