- Forty-nine unit Super 8 Motel opened at 2011 N. Kingshighway.

- Atlantis Services, swimming pool maintenance service, opened in Cape Girardeau.

- Plans were announced for construction of $50 million plant in Nash Road industrial area. Company officials with Kyowa Food Inc., producing food seasonings, said plant would be built near its sister company, Biokyowa Inc.

- Foutz's Fishing Shop opened at 59 Plaza Way.

- Gymboree, featuring children's clothing and accessories, opened in West Park Mall.

- Werner's CGA Supermarket, at corner of Henderson Avenue and Broadway, closed after more than six decades in business.

- High Street Station Home Decor and Gift Shop opened at 106 S. High in Jackson.

- Classic Design Beauty Spa opened in Plaza Galleria.

- Mr. K's Food Center, family-owned supermarket, opened at 254 S. Silver Springs Road.

- Mercantile Bank's Plaza Shopping Center branch closed.

- After being burned out in mid-July, Teen Challenge Thrift Store reopened at 17 N. Middle.

- Midwest Grain & Barge opened at Southeast Missouri Regional Port.

- After 39 years in business, Myron "Whitey" and Jackie Anderson closed Metro News Bookstore on Broadway. Book store and news agency had been at that location for more than 60 years.

- Seifert's Store for Women, fixture at West Park Mall since shopping center opened in 1981, closed.

- Plans were announced by Mark Sprigg and Phil Brinson to open micro-brewery in Buckner-Ragsdale building at Broadway and Main.

- Golden Sky Systems, DirecTV service provider, opened at 205A S. Kingshighway.

- Edwards Primestar Satellite Sales & Service Provider opened new office at 2148 Broadway.

- Bert's Barbecue Restaurant, which moved to Fruitland area last year, moved back to its original location at 517 N. Silver Springs Road in Cape.

- Option contract, with purchase agreement, was signed recently by Thad Bullock of Cape Girardeau and Eugene Davis of Houston, Texas, on Marquette Hotel on Broadway. Purchase agreement was for $630,000, which included hotel, garage and parking lot.

- Traveler's Garage-Gas, service station at 104 N. Sprigg for more than 35 years, took on greenhouse look. Like numerous other stations faced with upgrading its underground tanks, it closed its pumps and expanded into different business.
