THE PUBLIC MIND: GAMBLING PROPONENT RESPONDS

To The Editor:

Thanks for the opportunity to respond to Dr. James Fletcher Jr.'s three questions to the Yes Group in the Wednesday, September 28th, Letter to the Editor.

The first question - How much did the 9/24/93 rally promotion at the Show Me Center cost? We do not yet have all of the expenses in from the Rally at this time, but it will certainly be a matter of public record in the next campaign disclosure reporting period.

Second question posed by Dr. Fletcher - How much of the rally promotion costs were paid by the Boyd Group? Thanks for allowing us to carefully clarify that every cent of the 9/24/93 Riverboat Rally was paid for by local money donated by businesses, associations, organizations and individuals throughout the area. Incidentally, money spent on the Rally impacted the local economy in a positive , albeit small way through Show Me Center rental costs, newspaper and radio advertising, food and beverage supplier costs, and printing costs. This money exchange ultimately makes its way back into workers paychecks.

Question three is a little difficult to respond to because it reads a little like a hint of a business boycott and I choose to think that Dr. Fletcher would not want the intent of his letter to be thusly interpreted.
