LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: SOCIAL WORKERS BATTLE MORE THAN CHILD ABUSE

This article comes from our electronic archive and has not been reviewed. It may contain glitches.

Dear Editor,

My hat goes off to social workers who are required to investigate child abuse. The biggest obstacle to their job is the legal system -- both lawyers and judges.

When these state workers become involved with a family problem which was reported to the child abuse/neglect hotline, they frequently get blamed for the problems they are trying to fix. These state workers receive a great amount of abuse from the legal system. They have a much better working relationship with the families they are trying to help. I hope your readers will take note of this longstanding problem.
