LETTERS: REPUBLICANS UP TO OLD TRICKS ON TAX CUTS

To the editor:

The Republicans are up to their old tricks, promising something they don't plan on delivering, a tax cut. Editorials in the Southeast Missourian wonder why people are not "jumping for joy" for the tax cut the Republicans promise. We just don't believe them any more. For me seeing a tax cut on my paycheck would make me believe, otherwise it's no more than the same old promises that we get from the Republicans every two years, which they fail to deliver. The Republicans are looking to receive credit for doing away with the death tax. The Tax Bill will not do away with the Death Tax as claimed, it reconfigures it in such a manner that heirs will pay in other ways. The death tax is considered revenue neutral, so what does that tell you, it will effect the budget in no way. The Tax Bill also doesn't do away with the Capital Gains Tax; it uses indexing as you have with income tax. The leadership of the Republican Party needs to look no farther than the members of their Republican Liberty Caucus or us Libertarians for ideas on really cutting taxes.
