LETTERS: LETTER BASHING CONSERVATIVES HAS WRONG CONCLUSION

To the editor:

Paul J. Allee's March 31 letter to the editor concluded: "Liberals stand up. Conservatives stand in the way."

It is obvious Allee did not write this letter to stimulate individual thought or even to provoke debate but rather to foment a little liberal hate and discontent. In his mind, liberals are depicted as devoted to high ideals. Conservatives, however, are always portrayed as heartless individuals. This is a ludicrous conclusion based solely upon emotional beliefs. Logic, however, has never been a liberal's forte.

Allee reaches the invalid conclusion that because one is pro-life he must also be anti-woman. Could it not be just the opposite? To state that women owe all their rights and freedoms to the efforts expended only by liberals is preposterous. Most liberals today pretend to respect their conservative opponents and their ideas. But that is the problem. They only have to pretend. Allee, however, makes no such pretense. In his mind, if you adhere to a moral" standard (pro-life) you are an obstructionist to the progress of women. In other words, you would deny women the right to vote and own property. This is liberal doggerel, plain and simple. Allee has passed from the sublime to the ridiculous with this conclusion.
