Men's prayer breakfast a good event to begin 2015

A new year brings an opportunity to start fresh. For many, prayer is key: praying for families, friends, community and country, to name few. It's also a time to give thanks for the blessings God has given us.

On Thursday, a men's prayer breakfast will be held at the Ray's of Kelso Convention Center in Cape Girardeau. Breakfast begins at 6 a.m., and the program will start at 6:45 a.m. and end at 7:30 a.m.

The keynote speaker is Southeast Missouri State University head football coach Tom Matukewicz. Three local pastors also will speak, including Ron Watts of LaCroix Church, Mark Anderson of Lynwood Baptist Church and Father David Hulshof of St. Vincent DePaul.

Breakfast will be provided for $7.

Scripture talks about the importance of prayer and laying our burdens before Almighty God. One verse, highlighted by the organizing group, is James 1:5: "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach and it will be given to him."

This is a great opportunity for men in the area to start the new year on the right track in prayer to God.
