Park & Rec Day

If you're looking for fun activities your children can enjoy this week, make sure to check out Park & Rec Day on Friday at the Osage Centre.

There will be obstacle courses, games, arts and crafts, animals and more. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a surprise guest making an appearance at 1 p.m.

Tracker, the Southeast Missourian mascot, also will be there. Donations to the Humane Society of money, dog or cat food, treats or gift cards will be accepted. A donation also will enter you for prizes. The annual event is sponsored by the Southeast Missourian Jr. and the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department.

Speaking of the Jr., congratulations to all the students who submitted stories and drawings this year. You're sharing good information with classmates and others in the community, and it's fun to watch you use your creative gifts.

If you would like to submit something for publishing consideration, fill out an entry form from the Southeast Missourian Jr. print edition. Teachers also can get involved by encouraging submissions.

We will begin recruiting Jr. reporters in August. Those interested may call Cheryl Ellis at 388-2785 or email cellis@semissourian.com.

We hope you enjoy Friday's Park & Rec Day.
