Jackson forceswinner-take-all game

The Jackson Junior American Legion baseball team avenged an earlier loss and forced a championship showdown with a 5-0 victory against Cape Girardeau Plaza Tire Post 63 in the District 14 tournament Friday.

Jackson (35-4) will face Post 63 again today at 11 a.m. at Central High School.

Jackson bounced back from a 15-4 loss to Cape on Thursday with a 12-11 victory against Sikeston on Friday. Dylan Koehler picked up the win on the mound, while Logan Bartels led the offense with a 4-for-5 performance.

Jackson then played Cape in the championship round, needing a pair of victories in the double-elimination tournament. Chris Kirkpatrick shut down Cape, allowing four hits in seven innings. He struck out 11 and walked two.

John Bohnsack paced Jackson's offense with two hits.

Jackson sweeps Marble Hill

The Jackson Senior Babe Ruth baseball team rode a pair of offensive eruptions to sweep a doubleheader against Marble Hill on Friday.

Bryant Steffens went all seven innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out four to earn the win in the 10-2 opener.

Alex Beussink collected three hits while Ryan Bass, Bret Steffens and Trent Steffens each had two for the victors.

Garrett Fritsche struck out five over four innings to win the second game, a 13-1 five-inning contest.

Austin Mueller and Spencer Sander both had two hits for Jackson, which had 12 in the game.

Jackson (21-3) returns to action today with a doubleheader at Bismarck.
