JACKSON, Miss. -- Southeast Missouri State's Brian Hopkins' two-run homer, his first hit of the season, sparked a 13-4 Indian win over Jackson State University on Friday.

After a scoreless first inning, Hopkins unloaded his big blast following a Jackson State error on a Jeff Bourbon grounder as part of a three-run second.

The Indians, who led from there on, added two runs in the fourth, four in the sixth and three in the seventh for a commanding 12-2 lead.

Southeast improved to 5-2, while Jackson State fell to 3-4.

Winning pitcher Mark Frazier (1-0) turned in a solid pitching performance, allowing six hits and two runs in seven innings of work.

Andy Davidson mopped up the final two innings, but was touched up for harmless two-run homer to Jackson State's Brandon Tellis.

The Indians combined for a team total of 14 hits.

Freshman DH Brad Beatty led the hit parade with three hits and three runs scored, while rightfielder Tristen McDonald, catcher Jeff Bourbon and Hopkins banged two hits each.

Shortstop Zach Borowiak and McDonald and knocked in three runs apiece.

Jackson State's Dewan Day suffered the loss as he was charged with five runs in four innings on the hill.

Southeast returns to action against So. Alabama at 1 p.m. today.
