Senators tie game in final minute, win in shootout

ST. LOUIS-- Erik Condra and Alex Chiasson scored third-period goals for the Ottawa Senators, who rallied to tie it and then beat the St. Louis Blues 3-2 in a shootout Tuesday night.

The Senators, who had lost two straight, three of four and six of eight, trailed by two goals. They were beaten at home by the Blues on Saturday.

The Blues, who lost No. 1 goalie Brian Elliott to a lower-body injury late in the second period, had won two straight and five of seven. They entered having allowed an NHL-best 2.0 goals per game behind the goalie tandem of Elliott and Jake Allen.

The Blues took the lead with 5:37 left in the first period on a long knuckling shot by defenseman Ian Cole that deflected off defenseman Erik Karlsson past goalie Robin Lehner. It was Cole's first of the season.

Alexander Steen scored during a 4-on-3 power-play with 7:55 remaining in the second.

Elliott left the game with 6:02 left in the second after his right leg bent backward during a scramble in the crease. The puck went in the net, but the goal was waved off after a review.

Condra scored his first of the season with 12:05 remaining in the third period when he beat Allen on a redirected shot from the point from Eric Gryba to make it 2-1.

The Senators tied it with 40 seconds left in regulation with a rebound goal in front by Chiasson, his sixth of the season.

Ottawa's Ryan had the best scoring chance in overtime when he beat Allen with a wrister, but the puck hit the right post with 2:54 left.

Ryan was the sixth and final shooter in the shootout.

• Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester missed his second consecutive game with a lower-body injury. He had played in 737 consecutive games.
• Defenseman Barret Jackman played in his 745th game for the Blues, passing Brett Hull for third on the franchise list. He trails only Bernie Federko (927) and Brian Sutter (779).
• Ottawa winger Milan Michalek and center Mika Zibanejad were healthy scratches. Both had played in the Senators' first 20 games this season.
