KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Several Southeast Missouri State University's track and field athletes excelled during the prestigious Sea-Ray Relays that concluded Saturday at the University of Tennessee.

On the men's side, Bryan Alfultis won the open shot put with a distance of 53 feet 10 inches and he came back to finish seventh in the invitational shot put at 53-8.

Freshman Brandon Meyer was eighth in the discus with 167-1, a distance that qualified him for this summer's junior national meet.

Heather Keltner paced Southeast's women by placing fifth in the 400 (54.7 seconds). She was the first collegiate finisher.

Janelle Quigley was seventh in the 5,000 (17:36), Tammy Wenkel was 15th in the 800 (2:13.2) and the Otahkians' sprint medley relay team of Kim Stewart, Shauna Birge, Keltner and Wenkel was sixth (3:55.8).

"This is one of the top meets in the country," said Southeast coach Joey Haines. "We had some really, really good performances against a very strong field."

Southeast's teams will host a quadrangular meet Saturday at 1 p.m.
