Braden Cox passed for two touchdowns and 56 yards as the sixth-seeded Rams pulled a big upset over the third-seeded Blue Jays with a 20-14 victory in the Class 2 District 1 tournament at Charleston.

The Rams jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter when Cox connected with Austin Spriggs on a 4-yard pass with 2 minutes, 31 seconds left in the first quarter, but Charleston quickly replied to tie the game on Devonte Ware's 57-yard run with 1:01 left in the quarter.

Neither team scored in the second quarter, which was interupted by a weather delay, and the teams entered halftime tied 6-6.

Scott City again took the lead in the third quarter with Zach Carlyle connected with Skyler Bewley on 56-yard pass play with 3:16 to go in the period.

The Rams extend the lead in the fourth when Cox completed a 2-yard pass to Carlyle with 10:14 to go. The pair connected again for a 2-point conversion.

Charleston scored later in the period, but the Rams held on for the victory.

Scott City's Gordy Bradley rushed 22 times for 102 yards while Cox rushed 26 times for 113 yards.

With the win, Scott City (2-7) advanced to the semifinals where the Rams will take on second-seeded Malden on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Pirates season came to an end in the Class 4 District 1 quarterfinal round.
