Crystal City junior quarterback Neil Slabby threw six touchdown passes as the Hornets eliminated Scott City from playoff contention with a 54-21 victory Friday night.

Slabby connected on 17 of 21 passes for 292 yards as Crystal City improved to 2-0 in Class 2 District 2 and clinched a playoff spot.

"Their quarterback absolutely lit us up," said Scott City coach Jim May, whose Rams fell to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the district.

Slabby ran his season totals to more than 2,000 yards passing with 21 touchdown passes.

"We probably played our worst defensive game of the year," May said. "We didn't tackle anyone and they got us for some big plays."

Mays said most of the Hornets' big plays came off harmless-looking passes.

"They were short passes in the flat and we didn't make the tackles and down the sideline they went," May said.

Crystal City (5-4) built a large lead by halftime, and Scott City scored all its points after intermission.

Scott City junior running back Garett Schaefer broke loose for touchdown runs of 65 and 46 yards in the second half and finished with 121 yards on 13 carries. Schaefer came into the game with 905 yards rushing for the season and topped the 1,000-yard mark.

Brandon DeProw added a 6-yard scoring run and finished with 102 yards on 20 carries.
