WICHITA, Kan. -- Southeast Missouri senior Janelle Quigley became the first runner in school history to qualify the NCAA Division I National Cross Country Championships Saturday as she finished fourth in the NCAA Regional meet.
Quigley, the OVC female runner of the year, ran the 5,000-meter race in 17:19, nearly one minute faster than her OVC-winning time two weeks ago. She finished just 12 seconds behind the winner, Rasa Michniovaite of the University of Minnesota.
Southeast finished eighth out of 23 teams with 258 points. In addition to Quigley, Southeast's team score was comprised of Tammy Wenkel (47th), Leslie McNamara (63rd), Amy Arteme (72nd) and Cleste Ramsey (83rd).
Kansas State won with 92 points.
The national championship will be held Nov. 23 in Lawrence, Ks.
