CEDAR HILL — Poplar Bluff High School Lady Mules wrestler Zoe Freeman completes the first step to getting back into the state wrestling tournament.
Freeman competed in the MSHSAA Girls Class 2 District 1 tournament as the No. 1 seed, where she claimed her second district championship as a Lady Mule in the 190-pound weight class.
With a first-round bye, Freeman entered her first match and handled it with ease as she coasted to the semifinals after a 2-0 win over Ashley Fischer of Seckman High School. Freeman claimed her spot in the finals with a 3-0 win over Ardynn Trower of Eureka High School. Freeman kicked off the contest with a full head of steam. She managed to land a quick takedown and an escape, racking up enough points to earn a spot in the championship. Freeman wasted no time in the finals by collecting her most points of the tournament and defeating Shyla Reid of Webster Groves 4-0 and a place at the top of the podium.
Freeman advances to the Class 2 State Tournament, where she will compete in Columbia, MO, on Friday, February 23.
