Ever wondered how it is to be a Poplar Bluff High School Lady Mules cheerleader?
Many local young girls got the chance to get an up-and-close experience with cheering and exemplifying school spirit during the Poplar Bluff Cheerleading Kiddie Camp.
The PB Kiddie Camp is a long-running tradition that has groomed most of the current Lady Mules cheerleaders, and cheer coach Brianna Jones is excited to have it back for another year.
“Every year, we have this kiddie camp where the kids can sign up and come learn to cheer, chant and dance,” Jones said. “They get to spend time with the cheerleaders, make crafts and they just get to do a lot of fun stuff. A lot of the young girls want to be cheerleaders when they grow up, so they love it.”
The Lady Mules welcomed all future cheerleaders from ages three through sixth grade, where they participated in a three-day cheer clinic with help from the PBHS cheer team and the PB junior high school team.
The camp included learning cheers, a dance, jump and cheer moves, and even got a little experience with doing stunts that the cheer team performs every Friday on the sidelines of Mules Stadium.
Besides learning the ins and outs of cheerleading, the young girls also had a chance to unwind and have fun with making banner signs, arts and crats and photo opportunities with the cheerleaders.
Following the kiddie camp, participants with get the chance to show spectators and their parents what they learned throughout the week with a live performance in front of Mules football fans.
During Thursday’s PB junior high school football game, the future cheerleaders will have a halftime show performance where the three years old to first grade will perform during halftime of the seventh-grade game at 5:00 p.m. and the second-grade to sixth grade will perform between the 7th & 8th grade game around 5:30 p.m.
“It’s going to be a fun day,” Jones said. “They will get to come out and have fun, and they get to go out and perform everything that they learned in front of their parents, which is great.”
