Perryville volleyball team falls in championship of home invitational

Defending champion Bishop DuBourg swept host Perryville 25-10, 25-19 to win the championship of the 3rd Annual Perryville Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.

The Cavaliers didn't drop a single set in the all-day tournament, which took place at multiple locations in the city of Perryville. Bishop DuBourg (16-3-3) posted a flawless 8-0 record in pool play to advance to the gold bracket where they downed Arcadia Valley in the first round and then proceeded to eliminate De Soto in the semifinals before facing the host Pirates for the title. Perryville (18-9-2) also went 8-0 in pool play and went on to beat Bismarck in the gold bracket quarterfinals before edging Valle Catholic in the semifinals to play for the championship.

Bishop DuBourg swept Park Hills Central 25-17, 25-18 for last year's tournament championship.

St. Vincent also finished with a perfect 8-0 record in pool play to advance to the gold bracket. The Indians' quest for a bid to play in the semifinals, however, was stopped by a vengeful Valle Catholic team. The Indians (16-7-3) dealt the Warriors (16-5) their second loss of the season on Sept. 14 in regular-season action.
