Pak wins LPGA major in playoff

Se Ri Pak hit a utility club from about 200 yards within 3 inches of the cup on the first playoff hole to beat Karrie Webb and win the LPGA Championship in Havre de Grace, Md.

Pak atoned for a three-putt bogey on the 18th hole in regulation with the spectacular second shot on that same hole to beat Webb, who was trying to capture the second leg of the Grand Slam.

Pak won her fifth major, joining Mickey Wright, Kathy Whitworth, Patty Sheehan and Annika Sorenstam as the only three-time winners of the LPGA Championship.

Pak's last victory was two years ago at the Michelob Ultra Open.

Webb, who missed birdie putts of 4 and 10 feet on the last two holes in regulation, hit her approach in the playoff to about 20 feet, but missed the birdie putt well to the left.

Mi Hyun Kim (71) and Ai Miyazato (72) tied for third at 7 under, one stroke in front of Michelle Wie (72), Pat Hurst (73), Cristie Kerr (68) and Shi Hyun Ahn (72).

PGA Tour

Vijay Singh ended a 21-event winless streak in Harrison, N.Y., with his record third Barclays Classic title, closing with a 3-under 68 for two-stroke victory over Adam Scott in the final tournament before the U.S. Open.

Singh, a shot behind leader Billy Andrade after the third round, took a two-stroke lead over Brett Quigley with a 25-foot birdie putt on the 218-yard 16th and added a birdie on the par-5 18th to finish at 10-under 274.

Scott eagled the 18th -- his second eagle of the day -- for a 70, while Quigley shot his second straight 70 to join Andrade (72) at 7 under.

European PGA Tour

Markus Brier became the first Austrian winner on the PGA European Tour, shooting a 3-under 68 Sunday to capture the BA-CA Austrian Open in Oberwaltersdorf, Austria, by three strokes.
