Southeast Missouri State University point guard Sarah Costello has been recognized as the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for women's basketball, the league announced Tuesday.

A 5-foot-4 junior, Costello went 12-for-23 from the field and turned in back-to-back 13-point performances as Southeast beat Lipscomb and Samford last week.

Costello fell just short of a triple-double against Lipscomb as she had 11 assists and eight steals. She added four steals and three assists against Samford.

Costello ranks second in the OVC in steal (3.5 per game) and third in assists (4.17 per game) for the 4-2 Otahkians, who have won three straight.

The Otahkians have won all three newcomer awards handed out by the OVC this season. Other winners were Yashika Sidbury and Carina Souza.

Southeast's next game will be Monday at home against Oakland City.
