ORAN -- Class 1A Oran came within one out of a big upset of Sikeston, the ninth-ranked team in Class 4A, but saw victory slip painfully away in a 5-1 loss Tuesday in high school baseball action.

Oran (7-4), on the strength of a Philip Seyer solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, took a 1-0 lead into the seventh. Adam Friga carried a two-hitter into the seventh and promptly retired the leadoff man. A walk and an error put runners at first and second, but a pop out put the Eagles on the verge of victory. Sikeston then broke loose for five straight hits to plate five unearned runs.

Friga struck out four and walked three. He also had two of Oran's four hits off Sikeston winner Ronnie Childers, who struck out 15 Eagles and walked two.

Oran plays another big game today when Advance visits for a 4 p.m. contest.
